Back From The Mosquito Wars
Hello priceless friends and family. I’ve been requested to write today’s entry, and since I’ve had four days’ hospital rest, I felt up to it!! Today is Saturday, June 24, and I am still in the hospital, but I’ve been able to get up and walk around and visit with Bobby and the kids and some new friends we’ve made. Bobby has been constantly reading me your emails of love and encouragement. A beautiful friend wrote, “we are your wall right now.” That is exactly what we have felt in the past few days. You have been our wall of strength– our wall of prayer. We have hid behind that wall, leaned on it, and rested against it. Thank you for creating it for us. We’ve simply been overwhelmed by the blessings in the middle of a very scary experience.I’ll tell you one thing – I have a whole new reason to hate mosquitos! But after two days of IV fluids, antibiotics, steroids, and bed-rest, I’m so much better. Right now we are waiting for the doctor to bring today’s platelet count, and that should indicate how much longer I might be here. I’m looking at the bright side, though. At the apartment, 1 TV channel; here, many more! At the apartment, laundry; here, none! At the apartment, cold showers; here, nice and warm! You get the idea! Braden and Kyndal are on a mini-vacation with our new friends. This couple is American, but they work in Thailand for an International Company. They’re keeping the kids in a hotel with a pool – that alone makes it a vacation! God has provided everything we have needed. It’s no surprise, yet I am always amazed.I feel a nap coming on!! Right now, just a little bit of activity takes a lot of energy. Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts. We love you all so much, and we know you love us.As you can tell, the above portion was written by my wonderful and almost healthy wife. The doctor came in around noon and announced that her platelets were at 105,000. This is great news. She does have the spots all over her legs and feet that comes from the bleeding of the capillaries. He said this was very normal. Angie gets to feeling good and wants to get up and move around and then quickly gets tired and out of breath. Because of the high fever, the doc said her liver needs a little break so he has restricted her to no fats, no fish or meat, and no oil. So I have anchored her so the wind will not blow her away as she will likely loose some more weight over the next week or so. He told us that he might send us home tonight, or maybe in the morning. We feel we are only steps away from third base waiting to round for home. All we need is the doc to wave us on.More provision for us…. As you know, I canceled my debit card and credit card after they were taken. I really wish I would have looked outside my house before I cancelled them… but anyway. A debit card has already been sent to my Dad’s house in Texas. I have a friend of mine who lives in UAE who is coming to the states and will actually be in my home town in July. He is going to meet up with my Dad and give him my new cards. My friend from the UAE already had plans to come see me in August. How cool is this? What are the chances? 100% – thanks Walker.Rest assure we have not lost our focus and I hope this little incident does not scare you from coming to see us and being part of our travel business. This incident is pretty rare and can be treated. As Angie’s uncle said, this is not the best way to promote your travel business, but you sure got our attention. He assures us he is still planning to come see us, but will be wearing 3 coats of mosquito repellent and sleeping in his own mosquito net. I hope this makes you laugh like it did me. It kind of funny… All of us had more mosquito bites than Angie. I guess she was the lucky one or she smacked it before it had a chance to bite us.Our doc says that there are 3 strands of this dengue and once you have had one of the strands, you are immune to that one particular strand. So it looks like she has one down and 2 to go. It depends on who and what you read as there a many different views on dengue fever (even how you say it) If you want more info, I have included the link to the CDC. – http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/dengue/ Well thanks for thinking about us, keep the prayers coming, we feel it for sure.
