Really, Really Tough Day

Before you read this, you have to promise you will not worry about us. Promise? I mean it… promise? If not, don’t read it and just wait until you are ready. It seems like I had the worst night’s sleep ever. Braden fell asleep in the living room. He brought his mattress into the living room to finish watching Shrek and fell asleep before the end. We just left him there. I put Kyndal in bed with me as Angie was still not feeling well. Angie slept in the kids room by herself. It was a stormy night and noises kept waking me up. I got up several times in the night to check windows and such to see if the rain was getting in.When I got up this morning, I began looking for my phone because I wanted to call my Dad to wish him a Happy Father’s Day as it was still Fathers Day in the states. I could not find my phone anywhere. We looked and looked. I remembered putting it on the dressing table in our bedroom along side my wallet. My wallet was gone too. I really started to get freaked out and made the whole family look for it. We couldn’t find it anywhere. I used Angie’s phone to call mine and it just rang and rang, but I couldn’t hear it in my house. I called it a couple more times and then the recording that the number had been disconnected came on the line. I called my bank and had my credit card and debit cards cancelled. I used all the minutes from Angie’s phone to make this happen. We began looking around the apartment to see if somebody had come in during the night. We have been sleeping with some of the windows open, but only the ones we felt were safe to leave open. We noticed that one of the windows that we were sure we locked, was open. We went out on the balcony and noticed my wallet on the ground outside the apartment along with Braden’s wallet. I cant begin to describe the emotions that were running through my mind. I was so angry, hurt, violated, betrayed, thankful, confused and about a thousand more emotions I cant seem to describe. I went down and picked up the wallets and noticed they had taken all of my money but not my credit cards. I was so mad and decided to the get ready and go see the police. I got my shirt out to iron (you have to iron everything here when it is dried out side) and the iron we have requires the voltage adaptor. So I began hunting the voltage adaptor. I remembered using it to charge Braden’s Gameboy and it was sitting near our table. Sure enough, it was gone too along with the charger and voltage adaptor. This made me start thinking and looking for what else could be gone. My iPOD was sitting beside my wallet so they grabbed it too. So altogether, we lost about 300 bucks, and iPOD, a Gameboy Advance, and a voltage adaptor. We were fortunate that we did not lose more than that. My laptop was sitting out beside my bed, and they had to walk around Braden in the middle of the floor to go from room to room. I am not sure if I am thankful or regretful that I did not wake up. I am sure I would have been kicked out of this country if I had woken up, because I am sure I would have opened a can on somebody. The police were very helpful and showed a great deal of concern. They came back to my house and took pictures and I gave a statement at their office. They had a little hope of trying to track my phone, but they didn’t want to guarantee anything. So Dad, now you know why I couldn’t find my phone and how time so easily slipped away. We learned some valuable lessons today. The first is that it is better to sweat all night than have an unwanted visitor in our home. We remembered that “all things work to the good for those who are called.” We know this happened for a purpose and maybe we will figure it out in the future. I did meet some very nice gentlemen working for the police and I look forward to meeting with them in the future and developing stronger friendships. Hopefully it will be because we desire to be friends and not that either of us has to visit the other one for a special need. All in all, the day turned out ok. Angie is doing better and went to the main island with us. I could see it was difficult for her, but she wanted to get out of the apartment. I had to buy a new phone. fortunately I was able to keep the same number. We looked through our future apartment and told the landlord we wanted it . It is a 3 bedroom (this will allow me to have my office at home) and more in the center of the island. So our beautiful view will be gone in a about 20 days or so, but we will have a little more space and air conditioning. A/C was not a big deal with us until last night and our safety became a really big deal. The price is just a bit more than the 2-bedroom we are staying in now.Well I am going to go check the doors and windows (we now sleep with everything closed and locked – just like we did in the states) and I’m going to bed. I have a headache.
